Generational barriers within a household often contribute to a lack of communication, emotional comprehension, and validation. This piece demonstrates an abstract look on one family's struggle with these barriers, which they describe as "walls." |
Meet The Characters: The Jones Family
JamesPlayed by Taskin Akyol, James is the head of his family business that has been passed through generations and generations. He grew up knowing he would inherit the family business one day, and so he enforces the same tradition on his family, specifically on Jamie. However, he believes his family doesn't see the importance of continuing this tradition, nor do they see life in the same sense as he does. Life through one looking glass creates tunnel vision, and thus walls are built.
JamiePlayed by Matt Bignucolo, Jamie is an eighteen-year-old senior in high school, who works as a part-time busboy at the local diner. He dreams of becoming a chef one day and owning his own restaurant. Despite this, his family pushes the family business on him, even though he has no intention of associating with the family business. Will pleasing his family be more important to him than finding his own happiness?

JoanPlayed by Jessica Danecker, Joan is the stay-at-home-mother of teenagers Jane and Jamie, married to James. Growing up, she was told all she needed to do in life was find a good man. Find a good man, so she could get married, have children, and be happy. Here she comes to the question of why she is not happy. She's got an amazing husband and wonderful children, but why isn't she happy? Walls.
JanePlayed by Sam Piercy, Jane Jasmin Jones is a seventeen-year-old junior in high school. She believes that gender roles are complete nonsense and that everyone is to become anyone they desire. Jane feels as though her family cannot see her for who she is, rather than what everyone expects of her because she is a girl. Feelings of invalidation arise as walls wedge between the Jones family due to these gender roles.

Cooperative directing
Message from the directors: Wes Prankard and Eric Bauer
The task of directing a play can be a daunting one but once you begin, the task is not as daunting as previously thought. The directors' job is essential to lead a production. A director must be able to have a vision for a play and then be able to bring that vision to live. We were both lucky that we have very talented actors in our theatre group and we hope that you are thoroughly entertained with our rendition of "Walls". Enjoy the show!
